Everest, I think nearly headless nick only said sirius wouldn't come back because nick knew that most wizards don't come back. I don't think we'll see Sirius again soon though. I wonder where Sirius would haunt, if he did come back.

i think he meant more that sirius's personality was not one to be afraid of the unknown and that he would co nsider death just unather great adventure.

nick knew him when he went to hogwarts so he would know sirius's personality.

well maybe the death of his best friend, azkaban, and being locked in his dead mom's house changed his personality a little.

yeah it made him even more adventuresome and want to take more risks so he would be even less afraid and more willing to face the great unkown that is death and less willing to reamain on earth a projection of his former self. He also must know that by remaining he would eventually feel like hed been placed in another prison.

i don't know. i think going on to death (not remaining as a ghost) might have more to do than just being willing to take risks. it might instead have to do with being happy with your life, judging by myrtle at least. when i think of the ghosts at hogwarts, i think of nearly headless nick whining about not being fully decapitated, or myrtle whining about how nobody cared about her. they seem to like to complain, but they don't seem to me be afraid to take risks.

Umm Jem Have You Ever Heard The Fat Friar Say Anything Whiny Or Even Less Than Jovial
Being a ghost is a choice and people who are afraid to face death and what lies beyond stay behind after they die that is what we know so far at least. So judging by this fact i believe there is only a very very slim chance sirius would stay behind as a ghost.

^ um, i'm just going to play the devil's advocate and say, have you heard the Fat Friar say that much at all?!? Anyway, maybe if you get to know him, he might have some kind of problem, but he just keeps it internalized...
not that i completely subscribe to that theory, i'm just saying don't generalize or shoot down other ppl using really minor charcters- they don't prove anything lol.
Obviously this debate will eventually over b/c i believe that the issue of ghosts is something that was promised ot us to be later addressed. I'm thinking it has a lot to do with comtentment and fear, but its relative to the individual.

I think that she had all the characters say that he is gone for ever because she wants us to think that they are tricking us into being dead. but he really is dead. anyone understand what im trying to say?

I'm afraid I laughed when I saw your typo "they are tricking us into being dead...." omG. No... I don't think that's it. I think it's nothing or all, living or dead, and she's being straight out.

I think that the veil is some sort of storage place for dead wizards souls. The veil is dividing the living wizard world from the dead wizard world. Maybe Harry figures out or comes across a way to pull the souls out and gets Sirius back becuase he was not dead when he went through. It would seem to be just like JK to give Harry hope that he could get his family back and then find out that Lily and James cannot get back because they were killed, but could get Sirius back. Also, maybe the Mirror of E is a looking-glass into what is behind the veil.

The Inscription on the Mirror of Erised read backwards is this:
"I show not your face but your heart's desire."
Or something like that.
Actually, I didn't know that until 2 days ago, when I cheated on an HP contest I was in.
Remember, Ron didn't see any dead relatives? He had some, remember his Uncle Bilius or whatever that died 24 hours after seeing The Grim? He saw his heart's desire, beating his brothers at everything.

Sad that Sirius was killed because of a Stunning Spell... why didn't she just do the Killing Curse and not give him the indignation of being killed by a piece of cloth?

That is cool about the inscription on the Mirror. I was not remembering what they said about the Mirror - forget about it looking behind the veil but I still think the rest is a possibility.
