Dawn of HPR: From the 20-Limit Stone Age to the Domain Era by the HPR on Homestead Forum Members
-----
Here we begin to compile the book to put on the Columns and Essays board once complete. I'm looking for any memories you have of the old boards, and you can write them in personal narrative or book style, whichever you like. I will probably appoint a person or group to edit and compile it. Or maybe do it myself. We'll see.
Right now, type away.
Thanks!

My own memory of the old boards was of course in regard to administrating them. I was incredibly displeased with the first one's 20-thread limit, and my main focus for the board back then was to find a better one. I was constantly in a search of bigger and better forums that could be used for free. The one we had with our three-month stint at the domain was my favorite, and the current ProBoards forum is the one free service that most closely resembles it.
I was content with the board at the forum, and refusing to continue on the domain was a hard choice only because of the wonderful Forum and Chat. The ProBoards service was recommended to me shortly thereafter, however, and we are surviving with ProBoards very well. But, gee, it still would be nice to go back to the ad-free forum on the domain with HTML allowed.
I don't usually remember a lot about individual visitors unless they are truly causing a problem. The account hacking by N.E.R.D at the domain was probably the most memorable. Then there was the Larry/Barry issue, but I tried to stay away from that one, since no one seemed to know what was going on. Just as I suspected, it eventually went away on its own.
There have been some extremely helpful members, though. Moderators were not an option in the Stone Age on the 20-thread limit board, but as soon as I got a board that allowed delegation of responsibility, I was all upons it. Every Mod since has been important to me, and suggestions from them as well as regular visitors have been invaluable.
And at the last forum, the one on the domain, there was Red.
Yes, Redvolleyball03, my second in command, She-Who-Read-Every-Post. She's still around, I see, but she's not in the spotlight as she used to be. Much quieter now than when she was allowed to make decisions in my absence. Hugs and love for Red.
HPR Forums have been an excellent exercise for me in interaction and responsibilty. No one can know how much it means to me to provide a place for HP fans to get together and communicate safely. I am proud of how this forum has evolved in both size and maturity.
It is my number one solitary joy to visit.

Well I know I used to have a file called "HPR Message Boards-A History" but I lost it ever since I got my new laptop. Well this is what I remember from it. Mind you I don't remember everything perfectly.
HPR Message Boards - A History
Everyday, we devote a small amount of time for this Message Board. What we rarely stop to see how this wonderful community came into being. This is a brief history of the message board we all love and use.
The 20-limit Stone Ages BS (Before Smilies)
Unlike today's rich 300 member message board, the message boards in which our ancestors used were a simple 20-limit Message board. When somebody posted a new thread, the old one just got lost in cyber-space. Nevertheless, our ancestors enjoyed the message board even though it had limited safety. It was easy to fool other members since you could just change your name and there was no password. Here move on to the Middle Ages. The 300-limit Middle Ages BS The advance from the Stone Age to the Middle Age was very tough for some of the members. Many protested and many decided to quit. Others decided to advance but were lost on the process. When the last of the Stone Agers advanced or became "extinct". This is the Age that many of our beloved members started to join. Dr.Toodles, computermouse, and others joined during this period. However although this board was an improvement in many ways, there were some disadvantages. Like the Stone Age, there were safety problems, and the message limit problems. However unlike the Stone Age, a reply also counted as a message and that was also added to the message limit. This was also the time when fanfiction, news, and arguements started. During the 20-limit Stone Age most topics were HP-related, but during the Middle Ages, the non-HP began. Also during this period, the images began to appear. Although only one image was allowed, that was enough for the needs of the Middle Agers.
The First Unlimited Dark Ages BS
Little is known about this board. After a few happy monthes with the 300-limit board, a new board was made. It had the same style as the Middle Ages, but it was unlimited. There are almost no records of this board since it was shortly deleted after it's creation. I am not to sure about this board either.
The First ProBoard The Industral Age AL (After Limits)
The advance from the Middle Ages to the Industrial Age was very tough since the member numbers increased greatly after the Stone Ages. Many again protested, and the board was kept for a small amount of time. Than it became deleted and that was the end of the Middle Ages. The Industral Age was a great advance and limits were no more. Smilies were mass-produced, and safety had greatly improved. User ID and passwords were made and we were at last safe from the danger of imposters. Many call this the Golden Age since danger was no more, the infamous RTR, Barry, and Larry were no more, and peace and prosperity was all over. Unlike the simple boards of the past, this board was much more organized. Different types of boards sprung up and many found new homes in different boards. The creation of clubs and groups started when a thread named NDJT (Unconfirmed) was made. It stood for Not Dead Just Trapped, and it believed that Sirius Black, is not dead, but just gone. The reaction to this was huge. Many members joined, and clubs like NGJD (Not Gone Just Dead) were made. To clear this the Clubs and Groups was made, and that's how it started. RPG, FanArt, and FanFiction was made during this time. Also this board had a new addiction the Adult Boards. This was to seperate the adult topics so that young children who visited this site would not see the inapporiate threads. However the Adult Board was deleted after a few monthes.
The second ProBoard, the Modern Age AL
(The advance from the Industrial Age to the Modern Age is unknown to me since I wasn't there that time... Can somebody clear it up for me?) The board we are using today, has a few changes from the Industral Age. First of all, Word Games started after several word games, word accosiation and "another word game", began. More games appeared after that and Word Games was started to organize it. Quidditch was started as a request. However unlike the old joyful times, this is where our beloved old members started to stop visiting. As new generation members poured in, old members started to quit.
Wars
No major fights started during the BS(Before Smilies) era. But as we advanced, fights started to advance to. After a few peaceful years, it was broken when the war between BoysSmell and GuysOnly started. The very first HPRW (Harry Potter Rumours War) started. The two superpowers, KAKYO and Veldomort, kept raging war againest each other. After a night of fighting the war only stopped when a peace treaty was signed. Shortly after that, the peace treaty was broken when KAKYO declared war and started HPRW II. It continues on to this very day.

Currently he's called Harry James Potter... but we all know about his name-changing (sometimes even gender-changing! ) passion.

The past? Err... I can't really remember too much of what's happened here in the past year. But there are a few things that stick out.
RTR, or NERD was one of the main things. He managed to ban me several times in a few days, just like several other members, along with deleting all of the threads on the Post-OotP, Pre-launch board, and, I think, several other boards as well. But that was pretty much it.
Another thing I can remember is definately the formation of the clubs and groups board. I started the first club we had on here that was related to HP, which eventually triggered off the entire thing, and, I think, pretty much ended up with a war between the people who believed that Sirius could still be a live and those that didn't. After that loads of other groups were formed (i.e.: the DL, Pyromaniacs Annonymous [which never got reformd] and many others). I also remember that the whole idea of putting the name of the clubs you were a member of came about because people in NDJT were getting sick of typing NDJT at the end of each post (or at least I was) as a sign of respect or something.
And who could forget the origins of OSB? When me and Miche1220 became obsessed with the bouncy smilie, bless it's soul, and posted several hundreds of them in each post, before branching out into other smilies which we hadn't been as obsessed with before. And then the other members caught on (the only one that really sticks out in my memory is Hermione Potter, for some reason, and I'm not to sure if she tok part in our smilie-fests). After that, Miche1220 decided to form Obsessive Smilie Beasts, and so the smilie club was born, attracting members that usually never joined any of the clubs (for some reason I think of Darkscribe, though I have no idea why).
Okay, they're pretty much the only main points I can think of right now.

Yeah, I started the original thread after me, HH and Computermouse were all so distraught over the lose of Sirius. I think it was Computermouse who said that since we were so upset maybe there should be a spport group as a joke. I took her seriously.
