It has been in the news that Kate Winslet (from Titanic) is being asked to play the role of Fleur Delacour in the fourth Harry Potter movie.
I think she will take the role. If she does, is she how you imagined Fleur to be?? She isn't quite how I imagined her to be. I thought she would be darker skinned. Doesn't the book say she has long dark hair, or am I thinking of someone else?
So what do you guys think about this??

Fleur had very blonde hair...Kate Winslet isn't what I imagined, but if they can make her look the part and her French accent isn't horrible, I'll be okay with it. Not what I expected, though.

Kate Winslet?? She's a bit old, isn't she? Fleur's only supposed to be 17 or 18. And I always imagined her as being very thin and delicate. Kate Winslet isn't right. I hope they get someone completely unknown for the part.

Yeah it would be a little too weird for her to play the part, but who knows, they could make it work.

Kate Winslet?? Isn't she that girl from Titanic? I definetly can't see her as Fleur. Fleur just SCREAMS etheral beauty...I do think Kate is very pretty, but in a more....healthy way.

Kate's a GREAT actress. You all should feel blessed she'd want to take this part. Movies aren't supposed to be replicas of the books, its nice to keep things as similar as you can without hurting the script---but rejecting Kate's offer to play in the movie would be a huge hurting.
You're going to say she looks nothing like how you pictured Fluer
Well, I agree, but she's beatiful in a very magnetic and classy looking way. She may not be HOT like a supermodel, but is that how honestly people thought Fluer looked like? I doubt it. I think she'd look more interesting, something that not only intrigues your eyes but keeps them staring, discovering new things about them by their aura. I think Kate can pull it off.
You're going to say she's too old to play a 17 year old
Here is where I completely dissagree with you. Almost all actors and actresses get put into roles where they're much younger than their actual age. How many people watch Smallville? Superman, in that show, plays a sophmore in high school---maybe he's a junior at this point---but the point is he's 26. He may even be 27 at this point. This is what actors do till they get into their mid 30s. Furthermore, it isn't like Fleur would look real young. To be that attractive to the eye, you would think she'd look very mature for her age. So Kate again should pull it off.
_______________
The bottom line is when someone of Kate's calibre agrees to play a part, you really shouldn't reject her. Her motives forplaying are great---she wants to do it for the same reason Richard Harris played Dumbledore---for her children (in Harris's case, it was his grandchildren). She's english, and her choices for movies are excellent. She's done a broad range of parts. She's a great actress---and can really get inside her parts---without stealing the show. She's not like one of those typecasted actors who, when you watch them, you just think of them before you do their character. And that's something Harry Potter cast members need.

She is a great actress, and I've always thought she was beautiful...but I can't see her playing Fleur.
I always pictured Fleur very light and airy looking...etheral, as Jade put it. Not classically beautiful as Kate is. Fleur, I always thought, had the kind of beauty that would probably fade as she turned 40 or so...Kate is so classical, she'll be a gorgeous old lady, I think. And Kate just doesn't look superificial enough. Personally, I think Kate's acing personality and looks would be far too much of an upgrade for Fleur. She's too good to play her.

She IS VERY pretty but really just not how I imagined the character played on screen. This is of course nothing against her or her acting abilities.

Yes! Good description. Yup. Kate's Great, but she just isn't Fleur. Can anyone think of someone who would be good as Fleur? I haven't got a clue, and like I said, I hope it's someone completely unknown, but still... She's supposed to be about 17 or 18... any ideas at all?
And of course, she ought to be French! They're getting Bulgarians to play the Bulgarian parts, they really ought to have French people for the French parts!

That's right! I'd love to be introduced to some French actresses...we need variety.
Anyway, remember her part as Rose in Titanic? Well, she was supposed to be playing a 17 year old then, right? She seemed so much older...I had no idea she was supposed to be 17 until we got this book about the film last summer. You know who Kate would be great as? Lily. I don't know if she's a natural redhead, but it looks good on her. And it'd be much easier to make her look a bit older than 17. Too bad Lily isn't really in the films...

Rose was supposed to be 17?? I never knew that!!! Kate certainly didn't look 17 in Titanic! More like 25 or so, which she probably was. Nah, there's absolutely no way she could look like Fleur should. [edit] Although... that second picture is getting there, Jade. You're probably right, she could do it... but she'd never be the Fleur I imagined from the books. She's not quite how I imagined Lily either, but at least she's the right age and nationality and stuff! Yup, she could do a good job of that, if Lily was in the films. I've been looking for French actresses on IMDB... how about these two: www.imdb.com/gallery/ss/0283832/dbscan211a.jpg?path=pgallery&path_key=Béart,%20Emmanuelle Virginie Ledoyen, or Emmanuelle Beart. They're both about 30, but they could sort of pass for 17... Can't find info on young unknown actresses, cos they're unknown.
