Oh oh oh oh!! I have some really good advice; do NOT run over squirrels or chipmunks. I love those animals and would be greatly sad if you murdered one. I named the squirrel that lives in my backyard...his name is Travis!!! Then there is Chester, but he’s a chipmunk....oh and ‘Master Trot’ is also a squirrel...but he doesn’t come around that much any more. okay, am I the only one who does this?

Well, see, I would, but we don't have any regulars in my yard. My doggy chases them away with his mad barking skills.

My advice to you is just be confident when you're behind the wheel. I first started driving about 6 months ago, and I was so scared that I was gonna crash, I didn't drive again until last week. But I had a lot more confidence, and my dad said I drove a lot better with confidence. So just make sure you know what you're doing, and you'll be a great a driver! Good luck!

Just watch out for small Mexican children. being in england we don't get permits, just have to wait until were 17 to have lessons. which i now am, and have been having lessons for the past few months. hurrah! as someone said (can't remember) its getting to that point where you don't have to think abvout the driving and can concentrate on whats actually going on around you. this had a point, but i've forgotten it.

Just watch out for small Mexican children. Do you HAVE to keep mentioning that? If you don't stop it, we're going to see Cats...

lol... I have a liscense... just don't have a car... (which would be a good thing b/c I suck at driving...)
well... all I can say is... practice on a stick and you'll be a much better driver w/ an automatic
I wouldn't have passed my driving test (not the writing part) if it wasn't for my dad having a HUGE behemoth that he calls a truck w/ a stick.

Yeah, I really do want to try driving a stick, but we don't have one. Gah, I'm kinda scared...'specially for freeway driving, cuz we have lots of lovely traffic hereabouts. Eesh, and when I start driving myself to school...kinda a long commute, including at least 2 freeways and a bunch of narrow roads... But my mom's not going to let me drive to school for awhile, so I'll be ok.

don't hit any people. then you will have to pay some judge.
don't hit any other cars. then you will have to pay insurance companies.
don't hit any bunnies...then...well, then you'll just feel bad.

- When in doubt push the clutch in with your foot.
- Always keep the brake on while stopped facing uphill, and when shifting into first (starting) while on an incline...just use the gas, that's what it's there for
- With practice makes...smoother. I have been driving my stick shift for about a year or so now and my parents hadn't ridden in the car with me in a long time. Then a few weeks ago I drove them to my band concert...(yes, band geeks rule)...and they were totaly impressed. So don't freak out if you don't get it right away. Shifting takes time and once you get in the car by yourself it takes a lot of the nervousness out of it.
- Never give up. I cried while learning to drive a stick. I actually cied...and screamed a bit too if I remember correctly, but my dad just kept at it saying 'Only sisies drive automatic cars' How ironic that he's the only one in the family with an automatic? ...But really you're not a sissie if you don't shift, but I really do like my five speed more than his automatic!
- Shifting your own car can be a powerful, controling feeling. Don't let it get to your head and think you can control other people like you can your car lol heheheheh!!
- Watch for giant rodents on the road at night! I was driving home one night after dropping wormtail off at her house and then there was this huge thin walking across the road! I was like WOOOHHHAAAAA I think it was an opossum(sp?) ROUSS!!!
~And that my friends, was Emilee's Soap Box on shifting lol!! Enjoy~

grindy, here's some more for ya
when you first start driving, don't use a cell phone, or smoke or drink a soda or anything like that. Just focus on your driving. Way back when I started driving, we didn't have cell phones, but my father wouldn't let me take a soda with me if I was going out. He said it was too much of a distraction.
Also, remember ICKY - Impatience Can Kill You. Don't zap out when people cut you off. Let them be oblivions. Leave early enough that you won't be late so you aren't trying to hurry which leads to carelessness. Slow down in bad weather. Never, ever tailgate (not the party kind of tailgate). And most importantly - NEVER get behind the wheel of a car while your mind is altered by any substances.
Have fun!

don't hit any bunnies...then...well, then you'll just feel bad. oh no. that just totally reminded me. last summer i accidentily ran over a bunny (and it was just a baby *sob*). oh i felt so bad. i was w/ my dad driving around were he lives learning how to drive a stick and the bunny just sorta jumped in my way... i was like "aaaahhhhh!" and my dad said "what?" "i killed a bunny!!" then he goes "no u didnt" but i did... poor bunny. yes dont run over bunnies, you really do feel bad. and about sticks, i recomend learning how to drive one, its just a lot more fun than an automatic
