well, i'm not switching sides or anything, but i saw some disgusting animal treatment at a pet store near me. they had the animals for sale all in semi-clean cages, i didn't have any complaints about that, but they also had a room in the back of the store, where they had their extra animals stored.
they had snakes in boxes that were so small the snakes couldn't even move. they were small snakes, skinny and maybe 6 inches long, in boxes not even as wide as a cd case. they just stacked the boxes on top of each other, and must have had at least 30 snakes. that was wrong, because i bet they stayed in those cages for month. i bet it wasn't legal -- when the owner saw me peeking in that room, he quickly shut the door. i think they will go out of business within the next year anyway, but maybe i should report them if they are breaking the law.
hey though, about the hamster, cold acts as an anesthetic for little animals like that, so that hamster probably wasn't even in pain. and my guess is, what probably happened was someone tried to kill it, and didn't realize it wasn't completely dead yet when they put it in the freezer. they should have quickly (instantly) cut off it's head before putting it in the freezer, to be sure. that's what i would have done.

Well, that's great. I wanted a pet chicken snake for the longest time, but I also didn't want one because I didn't want to have to feed it dead animals. Ginny, don't trust what people say unless the post a article from a reliable source. Check the PETA website, they may not be the most reliable, but they would have at least a vicotry cheer.

The PETA site has writers as good as Rita Skeeter.

Hmmm....
And excuse me? Paul McCartney supports PETA, are you saying he trusts people who are as good as Rita Skeeter? And Pink trusts them too.
jem, you should report that stupid store. There's many places you can report them to: the police, the humane society, the better business bureau, or PETA. I recommend your local Humane Society though.

Cold doesn't act as an anesthetic for humans, why should it be that way for animals? It's basically like freezing a death-row inmate alive, except the animals have done nothing wrong. And that's like beheading prisoners alive, except one again, the animals did nothing wrong. Why should the animals deserve worse treatment than us? They don't die quickly, they sit and suffer.

well, i know you can anesthetize a baby rodent using hypothermia (putting them in some ice for a few minutes) and I have read where people used that on baby rats, and that it worked better than drugs on babies. I assumed it would work on a hamster, if it worked on a rat, but maybe it only works with baby rodents.

also, beheading an animal that is unconscious is different than beheading a person. if you do it instantly, they don't feel it. you can't just bring the animals to a park and set them free.
quick question: what's your opinion on abortion?

How is abortion related to Petco? You should either go to a different thread to talk about it, or pm someone. Oh wait, you haven't registered yet. Nevermind then. But Ginny, I think it is getting a little out of hand. I'm sure there are some bad Petcos, but have you actually been to a bad one and actually witnessed poor treatment of the animals?
