this is very different from my other fanfics...i wanted some cute, brotherish sympathy...meh, i'll let you figure it out ;D
"It's key lime."
"It's not key lime, I'm telling you, the key lime's have little brown spots on the tips."
I heard James rustle around in his bag of Every Flavor Beans. "Fine, this is key lime, then-"
I looked up angrily. "Will you three please keep it down? I've got two days to make up all this."
James glanced over at my work. "Oh, the Krup essay. That wasn't so bad."
"Not for you! You had a week to write it! I'll have to finish it in half an hour to be able to do all the work I have, and I can't concentrate with you three going on."
James looked guilty and Peter studied his hands, suddenly fascinanted by his stumpy fingers. Sirius, however, scowled. "What's wrong with you?"
"What's wrong with me? I've got a weekend to make up for a week's worth of class that I missed, you guys are driving me mad with your Every Flavor Bean discussion, and truthfully, I'm not feeling all that well, and-"
"Aha!" James smiled.
"What?" I asked, angry that one of my rare outbursts was interupted.
Sirius reached over and felt my forehead with the back of his hand. "You're running a fever-"
"No, I'm not sick, Siri." I shoved his hand away. "I'm just tired."
"Still?" Peter questioned. "Full moon was Tuesday...was it that bad?"
I swallowed. "It was pretty bad." It had been horrible. Changing back had taken years this time. The shack had been freezing, and I had shivered alone for hours, trying to placate my wolf instincts by biting the legs off chairs and tables, only to give up and resort to my own flesh. Blind to the pain until the next morning when it would all rush at me like lighting until I needed to be carried back to the castle.
I took a ragged breath and James immediantly put his arm around my shouldres. Peter scooted in near James and carefully took the piles of books from my lap. I started to protest but I was just too damn tired. Sirius peered into my face. "You okay, Rem?"
I nodded, and James squeezed my shoulders before letting go. "You really don't feel so well, do you?" he asked.
I qucikly replied, "I'm fine," at the same time Siri said, "He's always sick, what do you expect?"
So I picked a pillow up from behind me and proceeded to beat the hell out of him. "Stop, Remus!" he laughed, trying to push it away. "Stop it. I'll shut up, I'll shut up, Rem, I promise."
"Yeah, we'll you try being the sick kid all the time," I said, reluctantly withdrawing my weapon. I was taken my surprise when Sirius grabbed my arm. "What's all this?" he asked incredulously, and I knew he was looking at the new, bleeding cuts and probably some of the scars from the old ones. I had tried to keep the self-destruction a secret for as long as possible.
Jamsie looked at my arms too, confused, until understanding dawned on his face. "Jesus, Rem," he said. "Don't they give you anything else to chew on?"
And I knew I was flushing, and the silence was horrible. Until Siri said, "Well, we've almost got the Animagus thing down."
"Yeah," Peter added. "Couldn't be more than another year or so."
"Yep," Sirius said. "And then, hell, you can chew on us."
And I started laughing then, which hurt, but not too much to stop. And then Jamsie started tickling me, and then Siri and Pete started in, and as much as I tried trhough fits of laughter to squirm away, all three of them were much bigger than me and easily kept me in place. So eventually I gave up and just lay there and laughed, which had somehow stopped hurting.
