Yay *cuts voldemort in half with her laser* did you know that laser actually stands for: Light Amplification by the Stimulated Emission of Radiation
It's an acronym everyone!! Don't you love science!
*Puts on goggles and begins to write her lab report*
In 1797, Proust made the statement that he thought "… by deducing from these experiments the principle I have established at the commencement of this memoir, viz. that iron like many other metals is subject to the law of nature which presides at every true combination, that is to say, that it unites with two constant proportions of oxygen. In this respect it does not differ from tin, mercury, and lead, and, in a word, almost every known combustible." In other words, he came up with what we now call the law of definite proportions. This law states that for any given compound, the elements will combine in a whole number ratio. Although in 1797 Proust had to put up with skepticism from C.L. Berthollet and others, we now accept his thoughts and have used the law of definite proportions to find the moles of oxygen that react with magnesium, and the empirical formula for an unknown copper oxide compound.
